The holiday parties are over, the family has been seen, and I’ve watched about every Christmas movie on Netflix. In other words, I’m back home in Indiana.
It’s been six months since the last time I was here, and although I used to be so eager to leave my hometown for college, I now have a huge appreciation for coming back to my hometown and for the people who call this place home. I’m always happy to be home, but using the same excuse that my family uses for the cities I choose to call home, “it’s a nice place to visit, but I would never want to live there.”
We all have those specific things that really make coming home feel like coming home. For me, it’s the constant stream of Lifetime movies on the TV, the struggle of finding vegetarian options at any restaurant, Sunday morning breakfast with my grandma at Cosmo’s, and blasting r&b music from my mom’s jeep. While it’s nice to work as a travel YouTuber in Los Angeles and live the life I had dreamed of, there’s also something really nice and simple about being home and spending time with the people you grew up with, despite how different your lives may have turned out.
This Christmas, I made it a point to snap my family in action. I’m not home often, but when I am, I want to make it count.
Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!
